The 280 miles (450 kilometers) subterranean network was formed by the Greeks in the 4th century BCE.in order to build what was then named Neapolis, or "New City". Later, the Romans used the chambers and pathways to build aqueducts that provided water for many centuries to the Neapolitans. As the centuries passed, the current buildings were built on the old infrastructure and the remains were hidden in the depths of the city.
We will return on foot with our guide to the port of Naples (20 minutes approx.) passing through Via dei Tribunali and with a brief stop at the Basilica of San Paolo Maggiore (exterior).
